Our Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis Adds Elegance to Any Garden Space

If diamonds are a girl's best friend, then this trellis is your new garden BFF. It features simple but elegant latticework that's welded together to form diamond shapes along the sides of the structure. I love using this arch garden trellis in outdoor spaces that have a more traditional vibe, but it can add a touch of elegance to any kitchen garden.

These diamonds are perfect for weaving vining plants like cherry tomatoes, pole beans, and cucumbers through each side to give stems extra support to grow tall. The trellis itself can be used to span two garden beds, create a pathway or an inviting entrance into your garden space, or serve as a beautiful backdrop for a special event. Quality trellises like this one look stunning whether they're covered in plant mass or bare.

If you've purchased the Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis, you can rest assured it'll look incredible in your garden. If you're considering whether this trellis is right for your space, check the dimensions carefully to make sure it'll fit as intended. Keep reading to find more information about the trellis material, dimensions, and assembly directions.

Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis Material

Metal provides the sturdiest structural support for your climbing plants in the garden. It's also the most durable option of the garden trellis materials available.

The Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis is made of solid steel with a black powder coating for weather resistance. These pieces are made to last and be enjoyed in your garden for decades to come.

Dimensions of the Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis

TRELLIS HEIGHT

This trellis measures 84 inches (7 feet) tall at its highest point at the very top of the arch. Note: If you plan to put this trellis in a raised bed, you'll want to bury it deeply. Once it's installed, the top still shouldn't be much more than 7 feet above the ground. Even with the base buried, however, you'll still have 6 or so feet to grow indeterminate vines like tomatoes, pole beans, and cucumbers—all plants that can grow at least 6 feet tall.

TRELLIS WIDTH

The base measures 60 inches, or 5 feet wide. That means your pathway should be under 5 feet wide for the trellis to be able to span from one bed to another, if that's your plan. If your pathway is more narrow than 4.5 feet, this trellis can still work; you'll simply push your trellis deeper into the interior of each bed instead of having it right on the outer edge.

TRELLIS DEPTH

From front to back, this trellis measures 22 inches, or not quite 2 feet. This measurement is important because this is how much space you have to plant vining plants along the base. I love this depth because you can grow at least four cherry tomatoes around each base and still give every plant plenty of space. Your beds do need to be at least 2 feet wide, however, to accommodate this large of a base.

Traditional Diamond Rounded Trellis Assembly Instructions

This trellis can ship across the continental US and arrives in a box that measures 3 feet by 2 feet by 1 foot. You don't need any extra tools for assembly. Two people should be able to assemble this trellis in under 30 minutes.

Assembling the Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis is pretty easy and straightforward, but here are a couple tips to make the process go smoothly:

  • Grab a partner to help with the heavy lifting. The box carrying this trellis weighs about 49 lbs.
  • Assemble the trellis as close to its permanent location as possible. Once it's all put together, it'll be difficult to move.
  • Assemble the trellis on its side on a soft surface to avoid scratching the finish. I typically assemble trellises on the grass right next to my kitchen garden.

Step One to Assemble the Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis

Carefully unpack all parts from the box on a clean and level surface; check that you have everything using the list below or the included instructions.

Your Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis kit should come with the following parts:

  • 1 top arch piece labeled A
  • 2 top arch pieces labeled B
  • 2 side lower parts labeled D
  • 2 side upper parts labeled C
  • 8 nuts and bolts
  • 4 ground spikes

In total, there should be 7 large pieces that you'll fit together to assemble this trellis.

Step Two to Assemble the Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis

You'll begin by assembling the top of the arch trellis. Grab the three pieces labeled A, B, and B.

You'll notice that each end is either a smaller tube or an open socket. The tubes fit into the sockets for easy assembly. This is what gives the trellis a seamless appearance once assembled.

Insert the two parts labeled B into either side of part A to form the top of the arch trellis. Tighten the bolts on either side.

Step Three to Assemble the Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis

Attach one of the side lower parts labeled D to the side upper part labeled C. Repeat for the other side so that you have two sides of the trellis. Tighten the bolts.

Step Four to Assemble the Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis

Take one of the side upper parts labeled C and insert it into one side of the top of the arch, B. Repeat for the other side.

Go around and tighten all of the bolts on the trellis. Stand the trellis upright with a buddy.

How to Install the Traditional Diamond Rounded Arch Trellis

I always say do the worst first. When it comes to a garden trellis as large as this one, that means taking the time to fully secure it upon installation. Otherwise, you risk a lot of heartache and ruined plants (or worse!) when this trellis overturns after a strong storm.

Your arch trellis kit comes with four ground spikes. They're 13 inches long and are designed to be buried 8 inches deep, with 5 inches going inside the base of the trellis for stability. If your trellis is going in the ground, make sure to drive these spikes into the ground for added stability. This is important since the trellis won't have soil around its base to hold it in place.

If your trellis is going in a raised bed, I recommend, if possible, installing your arch trellis before you add soil to the bed. This ensures that the trellis is well-secured and won't move or give under the weight of all those beautiful vines it will soon be holding.

The very best way to install a trellis is to sink it into your raised bed gardens at least one foot down. If your raised garden bed is less than one foot deep, you'll want to dig into the earth at least four to six inches and secure your trellis using the ground spikes that come with your trellis kit.

If you're retro-fitting your arch trellis in a bed already filled with soil, I'd recommend digging out the soil in the area of the bed where you'll install the trellis. Then, you'll place the trellis and its stakes, and backfill all the way to the top of the raised garden bed with soil.
